Welcome to the premiere! Within this year HANNOVER FAIR will build a new platform for all clean technologies along the industrial production chain which is called IndustrialGreenTec. In fact of that exhibitors and also visitors will have the opportunity to get information about technical solutions all over this important industry sector.
Today an early alert for this year’s (and month’s) Hanover Fair, where the organisers are holding the inaugural Industrial Green Tec platform, IndustrialGreenTec in German where they have a penchant for making unfathomably long words. It promises to showcase existing and emerging green technology solutions, to renewable energy projects, and where electric vehicle technology is going with the next generation developments. It will be interesting to see if any “21st century wonder material” graphene solutions have yet made it into the renewable energy, electric mobility thinking. I suspect that this inaugural event is just too soon to see the world of rare earth elements merging with the explosive growth of scientific announcements coming out of the university labs all around the world. Next year perhaps.
If any reader is planning to be in Hanover for the Fair, please take the time to visit Hall 26 and let us know of any significant REE developments. Spurring Europe’s drive towards renewable energy and a switch towards electric mobility is the rise and rise of Asia, and their unstoppable energy needs. According to Der Spiegel, “China already consumes 9 million barrels of oil a day, or almost twice as much as it did 10 years ago. It is estimated that by 2020 the number of new cars sold in China will be 70 percent higher than today.”
Europe sees itself in the decades ahead, increasingly getting crowded out from access to cheap fossil fuels, as Asia and the Middle East increasingly take greater economic importance, hence the urgency in Europe to try to make renewable work and develop a viable electric transportation system. In both we are so close but not quite there yet. It will be interesting to see what the Messe in Hannover portends.
